1850s – David Wilson brought the first domesticated cows into the area
1889 – Merriman Foland and Bob Richards became Tillamook’s first commercial cheesemakers
1894 – Peter McIntosh, a Canadian, brought his full-cream cheddar recipe to Tillamook and shared it with the cheesemakers
1909 – 10 factories formed a marketing cooperative and named it Tillamook County Creamery Association
1919 – Tillamook County Creamery Association created a $16,000 newspaper and billboard campaign “along the Pacific Coast” (Oregon Daily Journal, April 19, 1919)
1940 – Tillamook became Oregon’s leading dairy county (Joseph E. Taylor, Persistent Callings)
1949 – Tillamook opened a new, $1.5 million, large cheese factory north of town
1956 – Tillamook County Creamery Association established a quota for its Grade A farmers
1959 – Workers at the large Tillamook factory went on strike for 69 days
